Gentaject 10 % is indicated with infections caused by microorganisms, susceptible to gentamycin, like occurring in urogenital‑, respiratory‑, skin‑, tissue‑, uterus‑, and gastro‑intestinal infections.

Description

Composition:

Each ml solution contains 100 mg gentamycin base (as sulfate).

Indications:

Gentamycin is an antibiotic belonging to the group of amino glycosides and has bacterial activity against Grampositive and Gramnegative bacteria (including: Pseudomonas spp., Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp., E. coli, Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococci.

Furthermore it is active against Campylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni and Treponema hyodysenteriae.

Gentamycin may be active against bacteria, which are resistent to other aminoglycoside antibiotics (like neomycin, streptomycin, kanamycin).

After intramuscular administration, within 30 till 60 minutes maximum serum concentrations are obtained.

Gentamycin is excreted mainly by the kidneys, resulting in high concentrations of the active compound in the urine.

Indicated with infections caused by microorganisms, susceptible to gentamycin, like occurring in urogenital‑, respiratory‑, skin‑, tissue‑, uterus‑, and gastro‑intestinal infections.

Contra-indications:

Hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside antibiotics, renal dysfunctions, vestibular‑, ear‑ or visus dysfunctions, combinations with potential nephrotoxic or muscle paralysing medicines.

Side-effects:

Kidney damage, and/or ototoxicity, with vestibular function being most often damaged may occur when given at high doses and during long times. Seldom when given at very high doses, respiratory paralysis due to neuromuscular blockade may occur.

Recommendations and Warnings:

Only half of the normal doses must be given to animals with impaired renal functions.

Dosage and Administration:

For intramuscular or intravenous administration

Horses, cattle, foals, pigs, sheep, goats: 1 ml per 2- 40 kg body weight for 3 days.

These dosages are preferably to be given twice on the first day and afterwards once daily.

Withdrawal time: 

7 days before slaughtering (for kidneys 45 days) and 3 days before milking.

Storage: Keep closed in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight and safe from children.
