Description
Composition:
Each gram powder contains 5.000.000 I.U. colistin sulfate.
Indications:
Colistin, a polymyxin antibiotic, is a small spectrum antibiotic with bactericidal activity against Gramnegative bacteria, e.g. E.Coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Brucella spp., Enterobacter aerogenes, Shigella spp. and Campylobacter spp. It has no activity against Proteus spp. Gramnegative cocci and Grampositive bacteria. After oral administration, the absorption from the intestines is very poorly.
Indicated with gastro‑intestinal infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to colistine, e.g. E.Coli and Salmonella, in calves, pigs and poultry.
Contra-indications:
Animals with disturbed renal function.
Side-effects:
Only reported after parenteral administration and due to three types of reactions, namely: 1. Nephrotoxic reactions, 2. Neurotoxic reactions and 3. Local irritation effects (injection).
Dosage and Administration: Administer orally via the drinking water.
Calves: 2,5 grams per 200 kg body weight, twice daily, during 5‑10 days (depending on the causal agent.).
Sows: 1 kg per 1.000 kg of feed during 3‑5 days.
Piglets: 1 kg per 2.500 kg of feed during 3‑5 days.
Poultry: 100 g per 1.200 litres of drinking water during 3‑5 days.
Recommendations and Warnings:
Medicated drinking water should be used within 24 hours after preparation. Mixed with feed, the product should be used immediately.
Withdrawal Time: 2 days before slaughtering and 1 day for eggs
Storage: Keep closed in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight and safe from children.
